Donovan Hawkins Obituary

DONOVAN TERRY HAWKINS was born January 20, 1959, to the late Ida Pearl Hawkins of Toombs /Tattnall County, GA.  Donovan was born in New Rochelle, New York.  He was brought to Georgia and raised by his maternal grandparents, William and Alberta Robinson of Manassas, GA.  He attended Grade and High School in Tattnall County, GA.  Donovan graduated from Reidsville High School in 1977.  He was active in football and track and excelled in football.  He joined the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church as a teenager and sang in the choir.

Donovan married Rosalyn Poe Hawkins in 2000, and to this union were born two lovely children.  He is survived by his daughter, Terry Danielle Hawkins (Terry), and his son, Donovan Terry Hawkins Jr., (DJ).  We would like to honor and give special recognition to (the maternal Uncle and Aunt) Mr. Willie A. Young and his late wife, Mrs. Jessie Mae Young, who adopted and raised Danielle and D.J. Hawkins.

Donovan Senior will certainly be missed by his brother Charles N. Thomas Jr. (Helen) of Manassas, GA, sisters, Ora Lee Ricks (Earl), Louise Brewton (Donnie), Cora Brewton (Grayling), Matha McClain, Silvia Bell (Stuart Sr.), and Patricia Webbs (Allen); brothers, Henry McClain Jr. (Shirleen), Johnny McClain (Constance), Don McClain (Lavern) and the host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.  He is preceded in death by his father, Henry McClain Sr., mother, Ida Pearl Hawkins, grandparents, and brothers Samuel Hawkins III, Alphonso B. Hawkins, and sister Sandrea A. Hawkins. We thank the Lord Jesus Christ that, as a family and community, we are still able to cherish his memory.

Donovan Terry Hawkins Sr. joined the US Army, served for 4 years, and was Honorably Discharged.  He also worked as an underground cable installer in the South Georgia area and as an orderly at Reidsville Hospital for a number of years.  Donnie, as we knew him, enjoyed fishing, and he loved to eat and cook home-cooked meals.  He will certainly be missed by Family and Friends….

Thank You All for your presence and support at this time.
